Senior Experience Researcher
Describe your role as a Senior Experience Researcher.
As a Senior Experience Researcher, I lead and oversee research at the project level. This entails helping define appropriate methodologies and approaches for meeting clients’ end goals and objectives. Additionally, I execute the research and analyze the research data. I partner with our design team to understand how research is going to help inform design from a strategic point of view. I also work with our business development team to help prospective clients determine what they might need from a research perspective and how we can help meet their goals. On the flip side, I work hand in hand with our clients to get all the details in place around the research and execution, as well as analyze our findings.
What steps did you take professionally that led you to this position?
The mix of my academic background and my professional background led me to my Senior Experience Researcher role. From both vantage points, I have always been involved with research — particularly the research of people and their behaviors. I have a master’s degree in the social sciences, which is a research-based degree, and I also have a background working at agencies and researching on behalf of clients. I have always been fascinated by people and how they communicate and interact with the world around them. It has taken multiple iterations to get here, but it has been a natural career path.
What do you love most about your job?
I love that I have the opportunity to interface with people from all walks of life. I learn so much from the people I work with and from my research with them. My main passion is understanding how people’s internal selves come together with their external environment, and being in this job in this capacity allows me to be at the intersection of just that.
What is the best advice you have received?
Let go of the things you can’t control. I think this is a very hard lesson for people to learn. Ultimately, you’re always going to come up against things that are out of your control; you can only do so much at a certain point. It’s not a productive activity for anyone to be spinning their wheels around things that they don’t have their hands in at the end of the day.
Additionally, I truly believe that your commitment and dedication are what stand out. No matter what you do in life, pour yourself into it, and follow it through to the end — that is what will carry you places.
What’s the most meaningful impact you’ve made as a Senior Experience Researcher?
Since coming to Ogilvy, I have brought a new viewpoint and techniques for carrying out, organizing, and analyzing our research — from my experiences in past roles and what I have learned from a best practices standpoint. We are using these techniques to determine how we can grow as a company and research team and improve our processes.
What do you like best about working for Ogilvy?
At Ogilvy, we are challenged to try new things, take risks, and push the envelope. We are also encouraged to discover how our own unique ways of thinking fit within the Ogilvy way. Additionally, I love working with diverse people. The more people you can get in a room — bringing different viewpoints, backgrounds, and skill sets — will ultimately better the end result. More diverse mindsets lead to a more thoughtful product.
