Senior Experience Designer
Describe your role as a Senior Experience Designer.
My goal is to create work that balances a client’s business goals with an end user’s needs. I work collaboratively with my clients, acting almost like an extension of their team, to understand their business and their audience on a deeper, more emotional level. And in that environment of collaboration and trust, I facilitate regular working sessions where we layer visual design, experience goals, and copywriting together to tell compelling stories that inspire users to take further action.
What steps did you take professionally that led you to this position?
I’ve always been interested in telling stories and solving complex problems. But it wasn’t until I studied visual communication design in college that I realized I could, and should, use design to do both. After I graduated, I moved to New York City, where I landed my first job at a small agency that, luckily, required employees to be scrappy jacks-of-all-trades. I knew how to talk to people and do great work, but it was there that I also learned the power of data in informing design decisions, how to develop strong working relationships with my clients, and especially how to absorb a brand’s message or story and help tell it to consumers in the most human-centered way. I draw on each of those skills every day in my work with Ogilvy.
What do you love most about your job?
I love that every day and every project and every client are different. I get to flex new mental muscles by the hour and learn from brilliant clients and talented teammates. In that same vein, I love being able to offer advice and guidance to them as well. Regardless of our roles, we’re all able to learn and grow together.
What is the best advice you have received?
There’s a Djuna Barnes quote that says, “The unendurable is the beginning of the curve of joy.” I think this applies to every complex challenge that has me stumped, in work and in life. It’s encouraging to know that when you feel like you have no clue how to move forward, you’re already on the path toward the solution.
What’s the most meaningful impact you’ve made as a Senior Experience Designer?
I recently had the opportunity to lead a project with an incredibly tight timeline but with the partnership of an equally incredible client. Together our passion and daily collaboration enabled us to completely update a website (and all of its content), and the business was beyond pleased with the results. Finishing a project always feels great, but this was particularly meaningful because of the relationship we built and how much we achieved, in a short time, because of that.
What do you like best about working for Ogilvy?
Ogilvy genuinely cares, which makes it a great fit for me. We hire exceptionally talented people who all live and work with intention. We seek out clients who care and opportunities that enable us to use human-centered design to create work that resonates, affects, and inspires. I feel so lucky to be a part of this team.
